# Drive-In Rack in Milwaukee, WI

Drive-in rack in Milwaukee makes sense when a few SKUs account for many pallets and aisle space is consuming room needed for reserve stock. Instead of providing an aisle beside every row, forklifts drive into storage lanes and set pallets on support rails. This is among the densest storage arrangements for bulk inventory, provided each lane has enough matching stock to remain useful.

The tradeoff is access: one pallet can block another. Brewing, food processing and industrial supply operations should compare their replenishment batches with dispatch requirements before choosing lane depth. We are a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., supplying and installing since 1997. Our recommendation starts with what your operation handles, not simply how much steel fits.

## Drive-In Rack Layouts for Milwaukee Production Buildings

In the Menomonee Valley, older manufacturing buildings can have tight column grids and several floors. A long storage lane cannot pass through a column, and available height must be measured in the actual storage zone. We draw lane groups between obstructions while preserving the receiving and production movements that keep the building working.

Along the 30th Street Corridor, the same approach separates bulk finished goods from frequently picked parts. Food and beverage users may need refrigerated reserve alongside ambient inventory. Drive-in pallet rack can reduce the aisle area inside a cooler or freezer, but cold-room openings, handling equipment and usable lane occupancy still determine the arrangement.

### Reserve Storage Without Blocking Production

Menomonee Valley and 30th Street Corridor layouts need receiving routes that remain usable when deep lanes are full.

## Drive-In Rack: Lane Depth, Rails and Stock Rotation

Start with the inventory pattern, then check whether the truck and its load can travel the proposed lane without interference. The following decisions belong on the drawing before material is ordered.

1

### Choose the access pattern

Single-entry lanes operate last-in, first-out (LIFO). Drive-thru racking provides opposing entry and exit faces for first-in, first-out (FIFO), but rotation depends on disciplined loading and retrieval.

2

### Match depth to each SKU

Allocate lanes to products held in substantial batches. Seasonal peaks alone should not determine depth: empty positions behind a different SKU cannot be filled without disrupting access.

3

### Size rails and guides

Check pallet bearing width, load overhang and loaded height. Support rails carry the pallet edges; guides must suit wheel paths and chassis clearance without narrowing the working opening.

4

### Check the loaded truck

Review mast, overhead guard, backrest and turning envelope together. The forklift must enter, place the load at every planned elevation and reverse out with adequate clearance.

## Planning and Installing Drive-In Rack Around Your Operation

Send the loaded pallet dimensions, maximum weight, pallets held per SKU, forklift model and a measured building drawing. We use that information for a free CAD layout showing usable positions, entry aisles and lane groups. Rail spacing and support selection follow the pallet's bearing surfaces; nominal pallet dimensions alone are not enough.

The itemized proposal separates new rack material, freight and installation. Experienced installation crews we schedule and manage assemble the frames, align rails and guides, and leave the rack anchored to the floor. We coordinate staging with receiving staff so unloaded components do not occupy the approach needed by production trucks.

For lightly heated Milwaukee buildings, winter delivery staging needs particular attention around dock doors. Agree on an indoor material area and accessible work zones before installation is scheduled. Cold-room projects also require a loading plan that lets your staff keep inventory moving while the agreed storage area is released for work.
