Pallet Flow Rack in Milwaukee, WI

Pallet flow rack in Milwaukee is the system I reach for when food, dairy or beverage stock has to leave in the order it arrived. Loads go in at the high end of a lane, ride gravity rollers down a gentle pitch, and stop at the pick face on the other side.

Because loading and picking happen in separate aisles, forklifts stop crossing each other. We are a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., supplying and installing since 1997, and every lane we draw starts with your pallets and your dates.

Pallet Flow Rack for Valley and Harbor Food Plants

Brewers and food processors in the Menomonee Valley often work in older buildings of 16 to 24 feet clear. Shorter lanes at two or three levels still give true first-in, first-out rotation without a full rebuild.

Near the Harbor District and Port Milwaukee, many operations run refrigerated rooms off busy dock walls. Gravity flow rack cuts the aisles in a cooler, so less air gets chilled per pallet stored.

Along the 30th Street Corridor, plants mixing production and shipping like the split traffic. Receiving trucks feed the back of each lane while shipping pulls from the front.

For brewers, I look hard at keg and case pallet weights before choosing a pallet flow rack roller package, because full beverage pallets are among the heavier loads we roll.

How Gravity Flow Rack Moves Pallets

Four parts of the design decide whether pallets glide or stall.

    1

    Rollers and pitch

A slight slope lets loaded pallets roll forward under their own weight toward the pick face.

    2

    Speed control

Brakes along the lane keep heavy pallets moving slowly so they do not slam the exit stop.

    3

    Pallet separator

At the face, a separator holds back the queue so the front pallet lifts out freely.

    4

    Two aisles

One aisle loads, the other picks, so putaway and order picking never share a lane.

Planning Pallet Flow Racking in the City

Every quote begins with the pallet: size, weight range, board direction and condition. Rollers need solid bottom boards running the right way; broken or mixed pallets hang up in lanes.

Lane length and pitch are set together. Longer lanes need brakes or speed controllers spaced along the run so heavy loads arrive at the face gently, and a separator at the exit holds the next pallet back while the front one lifts out.

Cold rooms need components suited to the temperature, and rollers behave differently in a freezer. We match the roller and brake package to the room.

Experienced installation crews we schedule and manage set frames, level rails and leave the rack anchored to the floor. In winter, bundles are staged inside rather than at a cold dock door.

One rule I give every food client: a lane should hold about what you sell between deliveries. Oversize it and product ages in the rack; undersize it and the face runs dry before the next truck.
